Bobbins are turned from Mountain mahogany (Cercocarpus ledifolius), a small shrubby tree that grows in the Rocky Mountain area of the United states. The wood is creamy white to light brown and has an extremely fine grain due to its slow growth rate. Mountain mahogany wood is not available commercially. The small logs that these bobbins were turned from was obtained from trees salvaged during construction of a firebreak road in southeastern Idaho.
Bobbins are available in Honiton, Midlands, Midlands travel size, Belgian and Bucks thumper. The Midland, Honiton and Belgian are approximately 4" (100mm) in length. The travel are 3.25" (83 mm) and the Bucks thumper are 3.5" (89 mm).

Two different spangles are available for Midlands bobbins at shown below.

The spider spangle is made of pewter. In the beaded spangle the large bead is blue lace agate, the dark blue beads are lapis and the small beads are silver.

Prices for the bobbins are US$7.00 for Midlands (standard and travel length) and US$6.00 for the Bucks thumper, Honiton and Belgian. Spangles are US$2.75 each.
